BKA Electrical attended a same-day electrical call-out at a property on Albany Villas in Hove after the electric hob began tripping the circuit. The customer needed the problem resolved quickly because they were preparing to cook for guests, so we attended the same day to diagnose the fault and get the kitchen back in use.
Testing confirmed that the hob itself was causing the circuit to trip. Once the fault had been identified, we supplied and installed a new 7kW electric hob on a like-for-like electrical connection, then tested the installation before leaving the appliance ready for use.
Urgent Call-Out for a Hob Tripping the Circuit
The customer contacted us because the electric hob had started tripping the protective device and could no longer be used reliably. With guests due and the hob needed for cooking, they wanted the fault assessed and resolved as quickly as possible.
We attended the property on Albany Villas in Hove the same day. The first step was to establish whether the problem was with the fixed wiring or the appliance itself rather than simply replacing parts without testing.
Diagnosing the Electrical Fault
The fault-finding process took around 20 minutes. Testing confirmed that the existing hob was responsible for the circuit tripping, allowing us to rule out a fault elsewhere in the kitchen circuit.
When an appliance repeatedly trips a circuit, the cause can be within the appliance, the connection, the circuit or the protective device. Proper electrical fault finding helps identify the actual cause before remedial work is carried out.
Supplying and Replacing the 7kW Electric Hob
Once the faulty hob had been identified, we supplied a replacement 7kW electric hob and carried out the change during the same visit.
Electrically, the replacement was a like-for-like installation, so no alteration to the existing cable or connection arrangement was required. The old hob was disconnected, the replacement fitted and connected, and the installation checked before the new hob was put into service.
Kitchen Back in Use the Same Day
The replacement itself took around 30 minutes once the fault had been diagnosed. From initial testing through to the new hob being installed, the electrical work was completed in roughly 50 minutes.
Because the fault was diagnosed and the replacement hob supplied during the same call-out, the customer did not need to arrange a second visit and was able to use the kitchen again that day.
When Is a Tripping Appliance an Electrical Call-Out?
A circuit that repeatedly trips should not simply be reset over and over without identifying the cause. The protective device may be responding to a genuine electrical fault, and testing is needed to establish whether the problem is with an appliance or the fixed installation.
